Suitcase Drive for Children in Foster Care
We Need to Collect About 50 More Suitcases to get Every Foster Child a Suitcase this Holiday Season!
We are absolutely overwhelmed by the support and generosity of our community. We started collecting suitcases for children in foster care on November 16th. We found out that many foster children carry their belongings in a trash bag when they move from home to home. No child should ever have to experience this. So we are collecting NEW OR GENTLY USED suitcases -- all handles, zippers and wheels must work. We have 200+ suitcases in hand now and we have another 100 coming from an organization called Comfort Cases. They're sending us brand new duffle bags filled with items like blankets, toys, clothes, etc for the children.
We are collecting the suitcases at both our Savannah and Tybee offices. We have suitcases piled high in both locations! We did our first drop-off last week on Friday, December 4th to make room for more donations this week! There are 376 foster children in Chatham County and our goal is to get every child a suitcase this holiday season. We have gotten donations from community members, the Savannah/HHI International Airport, the Salvation Army, SCAD and other real estate companies. We are so thankful to everyone!!! Help us collect 50 more! No child should ever have to move from home to home using a trash bag. You can bring donations to our Savannah or Tybee office locations by 3 p.m. Friday, December 11th.
