Chatham County Mandatory Evacuation Orders For Hurricane Irma Change As Predicted Storm Path Changes
Dated: September 10 2017
Evacuation orders have been changed for two zones in Savannah, Chatham County. Zone A, which covers Truman Parkway east to Tybee Island, is still under a mandatory evacuation, while Zone B and C have been changed to voluntary evacuation orders. Many left their homes early Saturday morning as the mandatory evacuation took effect on Saturday morning at 8 am for all of Chatham County and I-16 allowed for both lanes to travel west. As the weather reports shifted and the predictions were made that Hurricane Irma would take a northwestern path, traveling up the western part of Florida, many Savannahians decided to return home, rather than fight further traffic from the mass exodus of Florida traveling north. There is a curfew in effect for the people of Chatham County. from 10 pm to 6 am tonight, If you are out past curfew will be charged as a misdemeanor. You may be fined up to $1000 and spend up to 60 days in jail!
Don't be mistaken! Hurricane Irma is still a powerful and dangerous storm that is threatening the entire Southeastern United States! Please use caution and stay safe! Coastal Georgia are vulnerable to high winds, coastal flooding and storm surges starting Sunday evening!
