How To Get Started In The Home Buying Process

So you have decided to buy your first home?

Congratulations! You have officially taken the first step towards home ownership!!! So where do you begin?

The next step is to talk to a lender about becoming prequalified! This is the most important step in the whole Home Buying process! The lender will go over your finances, checking your income, debt to income ratio and credit to determine how much you will qualify for! If you are not where you need to be financially, the lender can recommend steps to get you qualified in the future!

I always recommend to my clients to speak to a local lender. A professional that you can go visit in their office and get them on the phone! No 800 numbers here!!! This is the one of the most expensive and important expenses in your life! As tempting as it is, do not use those online lenders! Not only do local lenders know the area, the land and houses, they also know the different types of taxes and the best loan programs that will work for you! The best and smoothest closings I have had the pleasure of being a part of, have been with local lenders! Ask you local realtor to get you the names of ones that they trust with their clients!

Once you are prequalified, you will have all the information ready to get started with your Real Estate Agent! If you have not picked one out yet, stop by my blog for the next installment to see how to pick the BEST Agent for you!
