Savannah Short Term Vacation Rentals
Dated: June 15 2017
Recently a city councilman suggested a 90 day ban on short-term rentals in Savannah and they are pushing toward a ban on them entirely. The downtown neighborhood association and property managers are attempting to compromise on the issue; however, we believe that this is in infringement upon property rights. We are completely opposed to this proposal. There are links below with further details on the proposal as well as a response to the proposal.
Short-Term Vacation Rentals
The City of Savannah defines short-term vacation rentals (STVR) as the rental of an entire dwelling unit for 30 days or less. STVRs are permitted in mixed-use zoning districts. In the 1-R, 2-R and 3-R zoning districts of the Victorian District, approval by the Zoning Board of Appeals is required since these districts are predominantly residential in nature.
The use is allowed in the Mid-City Zoning Traditional
Neighborhood (TN-2) District and limited to accessory dwelling units (e.g., a carriage house) and permitted only when the principal dwelling is owner-occupied.
